Learning Goals

A client was seeking to renovate a living room and bedroom to accommodate their lifestyle and aesthetic; as the hired home interior design studio the task was to remain within budget and create a functional and personalized speculative design project.

Outcome

The client’s furniture appeared antiquated and cumbersome, occupying a significant portion of the floor area and created a sense of disproportion within the space. As a result, the client desired an atmosphere that promoted relaxation and cultivated a sense of tranquility.

Process Tools

The project began with a needs assessment and mood board creation, followed by site measurements and concept development to optimize practicality, as well as reflect the client's preferences. Visualizing the design idea through SketchUp renderings allowed for flexibility and cost mitigation, while subsequent phases included feedback implementation, material procurement, and construction documentation for effective communication and issue resolution. Lastly, the completion phase consisted of the arrangement of furniture and accessories to fulfill the final project scope.

Living Room

The new living room space embraces earthy tones, fostering a warm and natural atmosphere perfect for relaxation and nesting by the fireplace. Through the incorporation of cozy seating, organic textures, and functional elements, the design achieves a harmonious balance while infusing character and charm with eccentric artwork and tidy storage solutions.

Bedroom

The new bedroom space maximizes natural light; creating an ideal environment for reading and leisure by positioning a low-lying lounge chair next to large windows. By utilizing upholstered furnishings, natural wood textures, and lush greenery, the room nurtures a soothing atmosphere conducive to unwinding and reconnecting with nature.
